Good that you describe the chain of trust in data and that it can go wrong in every step. However, you omit a couple of steps right at the start that may have a lot of (hidden) influence on what you see at the end in a paper or news article, like the funding (and the rules that came with it) that was provided to collect the data in the first place. Hi Enrico, what a great article (again). I come across so many people who judge their data at face value. As if data itself is enough to judge the usefulness. Trying to understand why data was collected, by whom and how is fundamental. But also a lot of hard work, as you mentioned. I would love to learn more about this, so please add me to your mailing list.
Thanks for this. I do think about this a lot. I often try to think if we could go back to how and where the data was generated, what would that data point look like. In local authority spending, that should look either like an invoice or a grant funding contract or... what?

I'd love to be added to the course mailing list.
Yes, exactly! It's amazing how much trust we put in "data" as if it were automatically a truthful picture of reality. I added you to the mailing list.
I'd love to learn more about how course and how to think critically about data viz!
I am almost done with the development. You’ll hear from me when done!
