The “Rhetorical Data Visualization” Course Is Ready! Sign Up!
After whole year of hard work, I am pleased to make this available to the world.
I have dreamed of writing this message for a whole year and am thrilled to announce that “Rhetorical Data Visualization” is finally ready and open for registration!
The main goal of the course is to teach you how to avoid being fooled or fooling others with data visualization. A topic that is essential and yet not very well covered by existing courses.
Follow the link to the course website below to get access to all the details (course goals, format, outcomes, syllabus, registration, dates, pricing, etc.):
Course Format
The course is delivered in a cohort format. You will go through the course material, activities, and live meetings together with the other students as a group rather than learning entirely at your own pace.
It’s a much more social and fun way to take courses online! The FILWD subscribers who piloted the course found the live/interactive aspects to be the most exciting and valuable.
Each module includes:
Recorded video lectures (~40-70 min each)
Knowledge check quizzes
Hands-on activities
Live meetings
We will meet twice a week for three weeks, and the live meetings will be recorded and shared with the students.
Course Content
The course is organized around a four elements framework:
Data-reality gaps: The disconnect between what we think the data represents and what it actually represents.
Data selection and transformation: The impact different selection and transformation decisions have on data messages and their validity.
Data representation: The impact different representations of the same data have on data interpretation.
Contextual factors: The role of contextual elements such as titles and annotations.
Check the course website for more details.
Dates and Discounts
The first RhetVis cohort will occur between February 10-28, 2025.

P.s. I want to thank the many FILWD subscribers who helped me perfect the course during two pilot sessions. Their help and feedback have been invaluable. After running these pilot sessions and gathering their feedback, I am very confident the course provides a lot of value.
Congratulations! Excited to see this go live. Great course 😃
