Hi folks,
Rhetorical Data Visualization is open again for enrollments! I am starting a new cohort in June, and I’d love to have you as a student. Here are a few quick reminders about the course. You can find a full description and syllabus here:
Course Goal
Learn how to avoid being fooled or fooling others with data. As a data professional, you have learned to use tools, crunch numbers, develop attractive charts or dashboards, and create engaging presentations. But how do you know if your conclusions are right? What if, after all this effort, your conclusions are weak or even plain wrong?
Course Content
The course is organized around a four-element framework:
Data-reality gaps: The mismatch between what data seems to represent and what it truly represents.
Data selection and transformation: How choices in data selection and transformation shape the message.
Data representation: How different visual forms change how data is understood.
Contextual factors: How titles, annotations, and other context affect interpretation.
Check the course website for more details.
Course Format
Each module includes:
Recorded video lectures (~40-70 min each)
Knowledge check quizzes
Hands-on activities
